FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE:
The Barbarian Librarian - a novel way to deal with school bullying
A new novel by Victorian author Philip Lemon combines
fantasy and adventure to deal with some of the real issues faced by
many children today.
The Barbarian Librarian, Lemon's debut children's
novel, mixes magic, monsters, and the supernatural to highlight problems
such as bullying, dealing with change, friendship, and standing up for
yourself and others. The Barbarian Librarian is an engaging story
full of action, humour and interesting characters, and is sure to become
a children's fantasy classic.
The novel follows the journey of Petra, an 11-year-old
with some serious problems. The school bullies are out to get her, she's
having visions of monsters that seem all too real, her craft project
keeps trying to kill her, and her favourite teacher, the librarian Mrs.
Benson, has been replaced by the sword-wielding lunatic Mr. Cromwell,
who dresses as a barbarian.
Petra's life is spiralling out of control and is seems
only the crazy, new barbarian librarian can save her ... and she might
be the only person who can save him.
The Barbarian Librarian is well written and suspenseful, with plenty
to engage readers. There are good messages about sexism, bullying and
standing up for oneself.
