|
| Petra is an 11-year-old with some serious
problems. The school bullies are out to get her, she's having visions of monsters that seem all too real, her craft project keeps trying to strangle her, and her favourite teacher, the librarian Mrs. Benson, has been replaced by the sword-wielding lunatic Mr. Cromwell, who dresses as a barbarian. Petra's life is spiralling out of control and is seems only the crazy, new barbarian librarian can save her ... and she might be the only person who can save him.

The Barbarian Librarian is well written and suspenseful, with plenty to engage readers. There are good messages about sexism, bullying and standing up for oneself. - Penny Matthews "This book is a great new take on the 'fantasy' genre. The characters were believable and easy to visualise, and I liked the off-the-wall humour - the no-questions-asked acceptance of the new librarian who is a barbarian! The story is fast paced and keeps your attention... very clever the way the stories of both worlds are entwined." - Patrick Jordan, WA "A truly engaging story. It merges a wonderful use of imagination and descriptive language with the very real issues that our children are dealing with today. The characters are authentic, and a feeling of empowerment can be gained while reading this." - P. Hughes, Qld Teacher |
